Florida Big Bend Education Initiative
This program provides Big Bend communities with free access to experts and comprehensive lesson plans that make learning about sea turtles fun, informative, and engaging. Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC) has created a new educational program focused on sea turtles, ecosystems, and issues in the Big Bend Region of Florida. The STC Big Bend Sea Turtle Education Initiative provides free virtual and in-person presentations that allows students, parents, and other locals to learn about the sea turtles and coastal habitats in their backyard.
The goal of the STC Big Bend Sea Turtle Education Initiative is to provide high-quality educational programming that helps increase awareness about sea turtles and marine conservation in a fun, interactive environment. This program provides an educational experience in the heart of the Big Bend, right where the turtles are located.
The program includes the opportunity for participants to take part in citizen science with STC’s In-Water Sighting App. This free-to-use app allows people to report sea turtle sighting when out on the water, and gives STC scientists a better idea of the sea turtle population and distribution in Florida’s Gulf Waters.
