Wassaw Will is an adult female loggerhead sea turtle encountered nesing on Wassaw Island, GA by researchers from University of Florida Archie Carr Center for Sea Turtle Research and the Caretta Research Project (CRP). She measured 100.1 cm curved carapace (shell) length. Wassaw Will was first seen and tagged in 2010 by CRP researchers, and visited us again in 2013, 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025. She typically lays 5 or 6 nests a year, resulting in 31 total nests with 2845 eggs, 2184 of which have hatched! At least 3 documented nests have been lost to storms or tidal surge. Through the genetics project run by Dr. Brain Shamblin at UGA, we have determined that Wassaw Will does not have any known relatives in the North Atlantic Recovery Unit at this time.Wassaw Will was released with a satellite transmitter on May 27, 2025 and is taking part in the 2025 Tour de Turtles.
